![]() Giordano, 37, has the biggest cap hit of any player taken but could soon wear the captain’s “C” when they open their inaugural season. Veteran Mark Giordano from Calgary was thought to be a possible option for flipping, but seemed unlikely when he walked on stage and pulled on the Kraken home jersey. Vegas announced 10 trades during its expansion draft Seattle, zero. The side deals and trades that Vegas fleeced the league with four years ago were absent this time around. Of the 30 players selected, Seattle committed only $54 million of a possible $81.5 million, not including a few restricted free agents who will push the number closer to $60 million should they stay. It was clear that flexibility with the salary cap was one of Seattle’s biggest priorities in setting its first roster. “It proves you’re true hockey fans,” Bettman said to the group on the water, leading to chants of “Gary, Gary, Gary!” There were giant inflatable octopuses, makeshift Stanley Cups and when Gary Bettman appeared next to the shore, he was soundly booed as all commissioners are. And there was an assembly line of Seattle sports celebrities taking part, from Sue Bird to Marshawn Lynch.įans on all types of aquatic devices - paddleboards, kayaks and all sizes of boats - created a flotilla traffic jam on Lake Union. Another came written on a fish thrown in the city’s legendary Pike Place Market. One pick was announced by an octopus from the Seattle Aquarium. It was still a celebratory night to introduce the nucleus of a team that will make its debut at Vegas in a matchup of the league’s two newest teams in mid-October and play its first home game on Oct. It’s awesome.”Īny unknowns about Seattle’s selections evaporated when all 30 names leaked hours before the team announced its selections on the shore of Lake Union. “All the boats on the lake behind us, the scene on the other side of the stage. “I envisioned this a lot of different ways and this is unbelievable,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. ![]() If it turns out that he isn’t the highest rated overall player on the Kraken in NHL 22, he will definitely be the highest rated defenseman that they have.SEATTLE (AP) - What the expansion draft of the Seattle Kraken lacked in drama it made up for with quirks, production and a giant party to celebrate one of the biggest steps in the launch of the NHL’s newest team. I would be surprised if Mark Giordano wasn’t the highest rated overall player in NHL 22 on the Seattle Kraken. He will occasionally throw in a few goals here and there and will help keep games close due to his defensive abilities. I strongly believe that Mark Giordano will be named the captain of the Seattle Kraken and will be a leader for the young team on and off the ice. Offensively, Giordano isn’t going to produce the Seattle Kraken 20+ goals, but that was not the Kraken’s intent on drafting him in the first place. Defensively, Giordano will still make great plays and help keep the puck from getting to the net which is always a recipe for success for winning. ![]() Leadership isn’t the only thing Giordano will bring to the table though. Despite being 37 years old and at the tail end of his career, Mark Giordano brings a massive amount of leadership to the Kraken. Mark Giordano The team did manage to snag a few diamonds in the rough though and while I don’t think they will have a very successful inaugural season, they do have players on their team that will make impacts each and every game that they play. ![]() Seattle will be making their debut in the NHL later this year when the 2021-2022 NHL season officially kicks off this October. Much of the reason for this had to do with the salary cap, but the 2021 Expansion Draft just didn’t have that same feeling the 2017 NHL Expansion draft did with the Vegas Golden Knights. A lot of players that were taken for the Seattle Kraken were leaked prior to the draft and a lot of the “big” named players that were available, like Vladimir Tarasenko and Carey Price, ended up not being drafted. The 2021 NHL Expansion Draft wasn’t the most exciting. Now that the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft for the Seattle Kraken has come and gone, we can take a look at the players that were drafted and get a pretty clear picture at to which of those players will be the highest rated in NHL 22.
